RHS Boys Soccer Team beats Somer High!
On Tuesday, September 27th, Rockville High School’s boys soccer team made history by beating the Somers High School’s team 1-0. Rockville with a 4-3 record was ecstatic with the win.
“Going into the game I knew it was going to be a physical and mental battle. Somers is always a tough team to play against and coming out with the win was definitely one of the biggest wins Rockville soccer has had” Captain Luke Woodward said.
Rockville’s team is an even mix of under and upperclassmen. “We have important seniors who lead the way but our younger guys also hold their own and work as a team” from Captain Finley Ross. “The team chemistry was really good, we know that no matter what happens out on the field that we have each other’s back. In the huddle before the game we knew what our job was and that somers was getting really loud and hyped up but our team needed to be composed and work together as a unit like we had all season long. I definitely think that the chemistry helped us win the game by just knowing each other’s skill sets and working hard together as a team with good communication and effort”.
When asked if there were any special preparations for the game, Coach Brett Distasio said “We prepared for Somers like we would any other team. The day before a game, we typically have a more serious practice. We want to make sure we’re locked in and will execute on game day. During the Somers game, we were composed and played well as a team”.
“What we just played was a perfect example of what soccer should look like. Composed and working as a single unit, a well oiled machine.” from RHS’ goalie, Abdullah Chaudry. “We didn’t need 7 goals in the back of the net, we needed one hard earned goal, and that’s exactly what we got. From the goal, to the defense, from midfield to offense, each one of us came into this game with electricity, and a burning desire to win, and that’s exactly what we did. We adapted, held our ground, and executed.”
